And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. – Romans 12:2 Amp————————————————————————————————————————————– Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. – Romans 12:2 NLT

I put up both versions incase one part of any isn’t clear, we can confirm in the other. I just want to bring out a few points or lessons God has helped me learn from this passage and I pray as you read that the sweet Holy Spirit will give you better understanding.

1. Copying the behaviour and customs of the world can cause you not to know God’s purpose or will for your life.

2. For you to know your purpose in life, the way you think and what you think about MUST change into godly values and ethical attitudes i.e your mind must be renewed.

3. Change is progressive so if you fall, quickly pick yourself back up and repent then get back on the track.

4. When you renew your mind, you grow spiritually.

5. God created you for a purpose and it is a good and perfect one.

6. When you renew your mind, you become a new person so expect people that liked your old person not to like you as much anymore and expect that old habits will irritate you.

I will appreciate it if you read again line by line, let it settle with you and I hope you understand why renewal of your mind is important, the passage implies that without renewing your mind and growing spiritually, God will most likely not reveal your purpose to you no matter how much you fast and pray about it.

How do your renew your mind? First step is to filter what you hear and see.

Don’t forget to spend time studying your Bible. God bless.
