I guess a lot of us are familiar with this passage, yea it’s one of the 10 commandments and before anyone says “since it’s in the Old Testament, it’s invalid”, there is a difference between the 10 commandments and the laws of Moses(popularly known as the law). God said heaven and earth will pass but His word will still remain and remember in Jesus’s response about the greatest commandment, He said “The first and greatest…” meaning God’s commandments will ALWAYS be valid. We will probably go deeper on this later but I believe this is sufficient for now and I encourage you to study the bible if you want more answers.

So to the topic of the day, gods are idols and idols are most times material objects that we tend to address worship or adoration or devotion to in place of God. This can be our celebrities, our certificates, our cars, our jewellery, even our perfumes, etc. Basically anything we put before or give higher priority to God.
Nobody in his or her right senses likes to share his wife or her husband with someone else. That’s the same way God is not willing to share you with any god.

Don’t get me wrong, those things are good. I mean, I like to smell nice, drive a nice car and all but when I fall sick because my perfume broke or I decide not to even read my bible because someone scratched my car then there’s a problem somewhere because all these things were created through God’s creations. I have most likely idolized these things that’s why I will feel this way so we should often ask ourselves, am I idolizing this thing?
