“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”- Proverbs 4:23 “For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery…” – Mark 7:21 “…out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” – Matthew 12:13
Three interesting passages about the heart. First one says, when protecting yourself, the heart should have the highest priority. Obviously when one’s heart stops working, from what I know, the person has stopped living but that’s not even the direction this passage is pointing to because it ends with it determines the course of your life. So it is safe to say your living a life without sin, being successful in life, etc is up to your heart. How your life ends is up to that small in size organ called the heart.
The second and third passages talk about how evil thoughts and even our words come from our heart so if all these not good things can come from the heart, it can also be used to produce awesome thoughts that overflow as words(and remember how powerful your tongue is from yesterday’s post?). The big question is HOW DO THESE THINGS GET INTO THE HEART? God helped me understand this when I was struggling badly with sin and I pray as you read this, the understanding will liberate you completely in Jesus name.
So to answer the question, through the book of Proverbs, the Bible kept emphasizing two other organs by which information gets to us; the eyes and the ears, meaning the two things that can make or mar you are what you see and what you hear. In the new testament, every time someone new gave his or her life to Christ, it was as a result of a miracle they saw or something else and what was preached or something else they heard.
It’s is very simple, what you see and/or hear often can either make or ruin you. If you have friends that all they talk about is negative stuff, I advice you hang around them less. Be careful what you watch and what you listen to especially the music.
God bless you.
