Love

So as mentioned earlier, we will be doing a series on Love and I pray the Holy Spirit helps us to understand better than we read.

So what is Love? The best way to learn anything is to consult an expert in that thing. Who’s our expert here? God. Why? 1 John 4:8 He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. So it an established fact that God is love.

So if God = Love, it means
1. Love is not blind because God isn’t blind
2. Love is rational and not irrational because because God is rational, etc which is contrary to popular believe so next time if you see a quote about love, just replace love with God and ask yourself if God is that.

You often hear “I love her”, “I love my dad”, “I love my dog” “omg I love cookies”, etc now I see a problem, the feeling for her isn’t the same towards my dad and definitely not the same towards my dog or cookies like really? There’s an obvious restriction on this English word “love” as it doesn’t accurately explain ones feelings. There are lot of other languages that are not as restrictive in their word for “love” so we use one of the original languages of the Bible, greek. Ancient Greek has four different words for love – Phileo, Storge, Eros amd Agape.

We will discuss Phileo tomorrow so let’s anticipate!
Remember God is love and you can’t say you have God when you don’t show love (like in the Christ kind of way by giving to the needy, helping people and all) to people around you.
