Storge – The Love of Family

So far, we have spoken about eros and phileo and i believe God is helping us understand well so far.

So storge? As mentioned above, it’s love for family – this is similar to phileo but more closely knitted. When asked if you love your brother or sister or parents, most of us will say yes without thinking of it but we don’t have a relationship with them, we just feel obligated to love them because they are family and when it’s in the case of true love, you will want a relationship with them. A bulk of us are closer to our friends to our family members but yet you love them.

Storge is a good kind of love but similar to phileo, there are conditions, expectations and obligations. If you see someone hitting your younger brother or sister, you will react immediately even you don’t really have a relationship with him/her. That’s storge.
Let’s note here that family is not limited to only blood relations – remember when they came to tell Jesus that His mother and brothers want to see Him? See His response in Matthew 12:50 and also let’s note that love of family is good because it’s fundamental to peace and stability of any society.

Let’s talk about agape tomorrow and see why it’s often mentioned in the Christian society.
I pray the Holy Spirit teaches us( + moi ?) more so we understand why we need to know these things.

God bless and have a great day at church tomorrow. Kindly Say a prayer for someone(not yourself) tonight, can be someone around you that you feel the need to say a prayer or just pray for the needy generally or broken hearted or the lost people. God bless you as you do ?
