The passage tells us not conform to the pattern of this world. Two words we need to break down before we look at the patterns of this world. The words ‘Pattern’ and ‘Conform’, a Pattern from my understanding is an identified manner or way in which something repeatedly happens or happened and Conform means to be obedient or compliant.

So incase you are wondering, what this identified pattern is, 1John 2:16 helps us to complete the passage and shows us the identified pattern that alot have conformed to as Romans 12:2 just said “this world”. 1John goes further to tell us about this world, it says “for everything in the world – the lust of flesh, the lust of the eyes and pride of life…” and the funniest thing is that Jesus was tempted with this pattern but He refused to conform to it.

I don’t know what you are struggling with to know if it’s right or not but the Bible asks us not to conform to these three things – the lust of flesh, the lust of the eyes and pride of life so if it falls under any of these categories then don’t conform to it. It’s for the best.
